Mary J. Blige To Be Honored With Lifetime Achievement Award At BET Awards

The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul will be honored with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award by the BET Awards.

Academy Award-nominated actress and philanthropist made history when she was nominated for two Academy Awards in 2018. The BET Awards announced on Wednesday that they would recognize the music icon for being “a figure of inspiration, transformation and empowerment, making her one of the defining voices of the contemporary music era.”

Blige’s work in “Mudbound” has helped her to make history in being the first person to earn an Oscar nomination in both acting and music categories.

The iconic soul singer began her career at 18 and became Uptown Records youngest and first ever female artist. Not only has she earned eight multi-platinum albums but she has sold more than 50 million albums.

Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Mary J Blige will be honored during the 19th annual ceremony which will be broadcasted live from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles on June 23.
